“If you think safety is expensive, try having an accident!”
Health and Safety (H&S) is a major focus in high risk industries such as engineering, oil and gas, nuclear, construction, defence, rail, aviation and pharmaceutical, to name but a few. These industries spend millions on safety awareness campaigns annually in order to ensure the spotlight is constantly on driving down Lost Time Incident Rates (LTIRs). The aim is to create a culture where people can call out any issues when they see them without fear of recrimination, the view being to drive towards constant improvements and sharing of best practice.
Organisations have an obligation under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to "ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all employees." This also applies to people on their premises, contractors as well as the public who may come into contact with their operations. There is a big focus on safety (tracking slips, trips and falls etc.) but what about health and wellbeing? The Act also has a requirement on the mental health of people, as well as their physical safety. Executive bonuses are most often linked to safety performance, hence the constant scrutiny. Incidents are bad for brand reputation and can take years to recover from. By investing in mechanisms which bring teams together, your will be investing in creating a positive health and safety culture. People connect on a human-to-human level, and inclusion enables this.
Inclusive health and safety teaches the principals of inclusion to help bring people together, understand their biases and create high performing teams. Teams performing at this level operate in an interdependent culture where they look out for one another: there is a just, 'no-blame' culture built on trust and respect. Why is your organisation focusing on inclusion? How is it relevant to you?
How can you harness the power of inclusion to drive individual and organisational performance improvement? We have created a training course which covers the following objectives:
