Supporting Mental Health For STEM Students & Staff

The mental health of staff and students is a challenging issue in universities. Drawing on accredited mental health content, our development programme adds additional insight based on our work on Masculinity in Engineering and student data. The two-part course that can rapidly equip staff to look after their own wellbeing while being confident to support students when they first present with mental health challenges. A workbook cements learning between the two parts. Further development can include staff completing accredited Mental Health First Aid training, which EqualEngineers can help source.

The course is intended to support an immediate need for improved mental health awareness within course teams, combined with inclusive culture development. It can form a precursor for further development for staff or students, for example where there are concerns about the culture within the student body.

Developing Inclusive Culture To Support Mental Health

Discover practical strategies and actionable steps to create an inclusive culture that prioritizes and supports mental health within STEM settings, enabling you to implement effective policies, initiatives, and resources that promote well-being and psychological safety for all.

Workbook

Enabling Individual Reflection

Mental health is a challenging area. We all have a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds. Our workbook supports participants to reflect on their own lived experience and make the learning relevant. This is supplemented by additional sources and resources, and can be tailored to the client’s context.
