PATHWAYS PROGRAMME

Engineering students from diverse backgrounds face multiple barriers in securing graduate employment in engineering. As a solution to this, we have designed the EqualEngineers Pathways Programme which will ensure greater employability outcomes for engineering students by 2025.

We have delivered over 40 careers fairs since 2017 connecting over 10,000 students with opportunities in engineering and technology.

To make a significant impact on the diversity of the engineering workforce, better support needs to be made available to engineering students in securing employment over a longer period during their studies.

Applications are now OPEN for Cohort 4 starting November 2023.

Why EqualEngineers Pathways Programme?

Mentoring takes place over a year, and often continues until the student graduates. In the first 12 months students also participate in a supporting programme of activities including:

  • In-person careers insights and employability workshops.
  • Online programme supporting students on work
    readiness, emotional intelligence, employability, and
    interpersonal skills development.
  • Work experience,placement,internshipandgraduate
    opportunitiesfrom engineering and technology partners.

The Pathways Programme is not just for Engineers. Many employers fill their engineering and other technical roles from a range of disciplines, particularly graduates of Computing, Mathematics and the Physical Sciences. This allows us to serve multi-disciplinary Schools or Faculties

What People Say About Our Programme

Joel Rogers Defence Aerospace Graduate - Rolls Royce

The EqualEngineers mentoring programme is a great opportunity for undergrads and young professionals to network over several months. As a mentor I was able to provide advice on early careers opportunities having recently been through the job selection process myself. Alongside the regular meetings, the mentees had the chance attend a site visit to Rolls-Royce where a number of tours of our facilities were arranged, giving them an insight to manufacturing, maintenance, inspection and repair.

David Kingsmill Civil Engineer - SSE Renewables

The mentoring experience has been positive from my perspective. We have communicated well. We come from different engineering disciplines and are in different industries, so we have been able to learn from each other’s background in that regard but still linking every back to the fundamental skills of any engineering discipline of effective communication, planning ahead and being adaptable.

Cohort 3 Mentee

The thing I enjoyed the most was able to communicate to a professional in the field I want to work in. It was fulfilling to have discussions about the key skills to have to excel in this industry of Motorsport engineering. Not only that, but it gave me a clear direction of what I need to do to progress and develop my self as an engineer.

The EqualEngineers Pathways Programme has been a pivotal opportunity for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their professional and personal growth. The opportunities I have experienced and will continue to experience are limitless, and I am grateful for the support that EqualEngineers has provided me throughout my journey.
