EqualEngineers successfully collaborated with DeMontfort University, thanks to a Royal Academy of Engineering grant, to champion underrepresented engineering students. Our efforts focused on providing extensive support, including mentorship and industry engagement, to bridge the skill gap and boost employment prospects. By offering tailored resources and creating an inclusive environment, we’ve not only supported student and staff development but also addressed the engineering skills shortage.
This partnership has been pivotal in championing underrepresented students in the field of engineering, leading to the creation of the Engineering Sciences Learning Centre and an innovative Employability Programme. These initiatives have been designed to dramatically enhance both academic and professional opportunities for these students.
Our project places a strong emphasis on providing comprehensive support through mentorship and active industry engagement. This holistic approach not only prepares students for professional environments but also directly addresses the persistent engineering skills shortage. By offering tailored resources and fostering an inclusive environment, we are committed to supporting both student and staff development, ensuring that all participants are equipped to meet the challenges of today’s engineering landscape.
The Engineering Sciences Learning Centre serves as a hub for learning and collaboration, offering state-of-the-art facilities and access to cutting-edge technologies. Meanwhile, the Employability Programme focuses on the practical aspects of career development, such as CV building, interview preparation, and networking opportunities with industry leaders. This programme is designed to boost students’ confidence and ensure they are ready to excel in competitive job markets.
