EqualEngineers Partners with the Institution of Fire Engineers

EqualEngineers is proud to announce its official partnership with The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), from 1st October 2024. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in developing and evolving IFE’s approach to Equality, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EEDI). Through a structured, two-stage process, EqualEngineers will provide strategic insight and actionable guidance to help shape an inclusive future for the fire engineering profession.

Stage 1 – Survey: Capturing the Voice of the Community

As a first step, EqualEngineers is conducting an in-depth survey launched on the 1st of October 2024. This survey will encompass all members of the IFE, with a focus on capturing the voice of the fire engineering community. The survey aims to explore both the diversity of the workforce and the lived experiences of professionals within the sector. EqualEngineers’ unique approach will allow for a thorough examination of the demographics within the IFE, helping to identify areas where specific groups may be marginalised or favoured. This data-driven approach will give IFE a clear snapshot of where inequalities exist, allowing the organisation to act swiftly and effectively in addressing these disparities. The insights gained from the survey will form the basis for more detailed discussions and inform the next phase of the project.

Stage 2 – Focus Groups: Breaking Down Barriers to Inclusion

Following the survey, EqualEngineers will facilitate four focus groups, a key element of its consultancy services. These sessions will serve as confidential forums where IFE members can engage in candid discussions about the barriers and enablers to fostering a truly inclusive culture in the fire engineering sector. By providing this safe space, EqualEngineers aims to identify tangible actions that can be implemented to enhance the EEDI framework within the IFE. The feedback from these focus groups will undergo comprehensive analysis to tailor an action plan specifically for the IFE. This tailored strategy will ensure that the IFE’s initiatives are aligned with the unique needs of its workforce and membership. The focus group discussions will provide deep insights into the organisational culture, allowing the IFE to prioritise its DEI efforts where they are needed most and make meaningful, long-term change.

Dr Mark McBride-Wright on the Partnership

Speaking on this partnership, Dr Mark McBride-Wright, Founder and CEO of EqualEngineers, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We’re really pleased to work alongside the Institution of Fire Engineers. As global leaders within the fire sector, their mission to enhance EEDI within their membership and the wider sector is truly fantastic and speaks volumes. We are confident that through our approach, we can provide the IFE with the tools and insights needed to create a more inclusive and equitable environment, not just for their members, but for the fire engineering profession at large.”

Steve Hamm on the IFE’s Commitment

IFE Chief Executive, Steve Hamm, commented on the partnership: “We are committed to ensuring that the IFE fosters a truly inclusive environment for all fire engineers. Working with our members, we will influence and implement lasting change across the sector on a global scale, to drive meaningful change and create a brighter, more equitable path forward for those within the fire profession.” This commitment to meaningful change highlights IFE’s dedication to leading the fire sector in promoting diversity and equity within its membership and beyond.

A Future Built on Inclusion

As this partnership moves forward, EqualEngineers will continue to offer its expertise in delivering tailored DEI strategies that foster inclusive environments. The collaboration with IFE represents a significant opportunity to make a real difference within the fire engineering profession. Through the combination data collection and meaningful conversations, EqualEngineers aims to empower the IFE to become a leader in EEDI best practices, ultimately setting a benchmark for the fire sector globally.
